Free primary healthcare to begin in 150 districts
The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has announced that the free primary healthcare initiative will begin in 150 districts, starting with those that need it most.
Under the initiative, care at CHPS compounds, health centres and polyclinics in the chosen districts will be provided at no charge to patients. The ministry has procured 24,534 pieces of medical equipment for the facilities that will deliver it, and a delegation has called on the Ga Mantse ahead of the launch in Accra.
The rollout is the first phase of a national programme. The ministry has said that more districts will follow as facilities are equipped and staffed.
