Technology Acquisition and Adaptation Department
Bridges the gap between research and industry: it helps turn research results into businesses, through technology incubation, pilot ventures with private investors, and the acquisition and adaptation of technologies. It supervises PRODA, NOTAP and SHESTCO.

Vision and mission
- Vision: to coordinate the acquisition of foreign and indigenous technologies and their use in Nigeria.
- Mission: to develop Nigeria technologically through indigenous invention, innovation and adopted technology.
What the department does
- Sets policy on acquiring technology from Nigeria's research institutes and universities, and from other countries
- Assesses and promotes technologies developed by Nigerian inventors and entrepreneurs
- Designs programmes that set up incubator industries from those technologies, with technical and financial partners
- Works with lawmakers on laws that protect Nigerian enterprises built on local or acquired technology
- Works with ministries, agencies and the private sector on turning research into industry
Its four sections
- Innovation, Research and Development: data on invention in universities, institutes and among individuals, and support for inventors under the Presidential Standing Committee on Inventions and Innovations
- Technology Acquisition and Reverse Engineering: improving local technology to international standards, and adapting foreign technology to Nigerian conditions
- Technology Needs Assessment: identifying the country's technology needs
- Technology Impact Assessment: surveying how introduced technologies are working, and proposing fixes
