Minister named 2026 Gates Foundation Goalkeepers Champion

The Gates Foundation has recognised Dr 'Bosun Tijani for his work on artificial intelligence and digital transformation in Africa.

Goalkeepers Champions are people whose work, in the foundation's words, is helping shape a future where artificial intelligence expands opportunity rather than deepens inequality.

Under the minister's leadership, Nigeria has published a National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, built N-ATLAS, a language model for Nigerian languages, and set up the National AI Trust.

The recognition ceremony takes place in New York on 21 September 2026.
